“All things lead me here.”
Which anybody can say at any time, because it’s true.
So why am I here, starting a blog? It’s a bit early 2000s, isn’t it?
I’ve had the domain for years. My website sat in a draft state, originally intended to advertise my videography and social media services. I never got around to finishing and publishing it because, on reflection — and all the articles here will be reflection — I couldn’t really be arsed with chasing more clients, more shoots, more editing, more deadlines.
And for what?
To be a busy fool, using my skills just to make money.
It’s empty.
I really couldn’t be arsed.
Along with a recent midlife crisis — more on that later — I just started feeling increasingly like I wanted to create and write for the sake of it.
I’m good with words. Or so I think.
We’ll find out.
But I think it’ll be cathartic. I need to see my experiences written out. Most are funny, some are sad, but they’re personal, real and, hopefully, relatable.
I also think that now I am living alone, finally, I seek connection.
I might not get any traffic. I might not get any interaction. But that’s not really the point. Obviously, it would be a lovely bonus. I’d like people to read this. I’d like people to find something in it.
But I just want to put it out there.
My friends will read it, and their feedback alone will feel good.
So today I logged back into the website, cobbled some initial words together, uploaded a few photos and just hit publish.
Rough and unready.
It even had the template photos on the front page.
But it felt good to have it live.
Although, of course, as is typical of my life — or probably anyone’s life — it didn’t just work.
No SSL certificate.
So the initial loading experience looks like a dodgy website asking if you’re really sure you want to proceed.
Brilliant.
I’ll sort that tomorrow.
And then I’m away, aren’t I?
I can just let whatever comes out of my brain, in whatever order, come out and publish it right here.
I may end up being the only person who ever browses this website.
Doesn’t matter.
It’s instant.
And it’s the first thing to genuinely excite me in a long time.
So, there’s more to come.
I hope you find me.
And I hope you enjoy it.
Thanks for reading.
B.
